Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities (AVICC) Annual Convention 2014

DSC02228

I am pleased to attend on behalf of Oak Bay, the 65th Annual AVICC Convention this year, from April 11 – 13 in Qualicum Beach, hosted by the communities of Qualicum Beach and Parksville.  The convention will again draw local government representatives from cities, districts, towns, villages and regional districts on the Island and Sunshine Coast and former Conservative MP Deb Gray is the keynote speaker.

There will be study tours, plenary sessions, social networking sessions, elections and resolutions.  Programming includes topics on:

  • climate change
  • eco-systems as integral to local infrastructure
  • collaborating on community health
  • update on the gas operating agreement renewal process
  • BC hydro rates
  • private managed forest lands
  • BC ferries’ rate hikes and service cuts

I will report out on this blog what I learned and provide a summary of activities and highlights.  I will be attending with Oak Bay Council colleagues and I look forward to connecting with colleagues from other communities, both large and small.
