I was pleased to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Oak Bay High School, along with Council colleagues Mayor Nils Jensen and Councillor Kirby, our Director of Parks and Recreation Ray Herman, MLA Andrew Weaver, former MLA Ida Chong, current and former Victoria School District and Board officials, Oak Bay High School Principal Dave Thomson and some of his staff, Provincial Government representatives, consulting architects, newly-named local builder Farmer Construction and of course Oak Bay residents.

As one of the speakers stated, this is a great day for students, education, Oak Bay and the future of our community and region.  It is also the celebration of successful working partnerships forged about 10 years ago when a new Oak Bay High School was first considered.  The new $52.5M school will be a real asset to Oak Bay, with a new performing arts theatre (to which the District of Oak Bay provided $1.0M),  and  a Neighbourhood Learning Centre that will deliver child care, teen programs and other community services.
