Oak Bay Parks and Recreation staff, Ray Herman and Chris Hyde-Lay, are pleased to announce that Victoria will be hosting Tree Canada’s Canadian Urban Forest Conference in 2014. The event will bring delegates from all over Canada and the Pacific Northwest and represents a collaborative bid by the municipalities of Oak Bay and Saanich, the CRD, UVic and private sector organizations.
Oak Bay values its urban forests and tree canopies and through OB Parks, has a tree-planting program that is continually being maintained and enhanced. Local advocates for tree preservation, the Oak Bay Green Committee, as well as The Friends of Uplands Park, should be pleased to know that the focus next year will be on Victoria and our region. During this important conference, to be held at the Victoria Conference Centre, Oak Bay’s Uplands Park will be showcased, along with Beacon Hill Park, Butchart Gardens and Mount Douglas Park.
This is good news for urban forest protection and conservation and you can find more details about this conference by visiting the Civicinfo website, at www.civicinfo.bc.ca
