For the first time in its history, the UBCM annual Convention finished early with policy resolutions. Voting was completed nearly an hour ahead of schedule, with two resolutions of significance for me this morning. I voted to support resolutions to encourage provincial incentives to build more rental housing in BC and to call for a province-wide ban on shark fin harvesting.
The end of the policy session was followed by a keynote address to delegates by Premier Christy Clark.
It was a busy week for Oak Bay Council members attending UBCM this year. Some of us were also fulfilling other work and community commitments throughout the week, beginning on Monday night with a regular Council meeting.
But one of the highlights of the week for me was meeting Anna Maria Tremonti, host of CBC Radio’s “The Current,” who was convention keynote speaker. Afterwards, some Oak Bay Council members had the opportunity to talk with her and pose for a photo.
On the weekend, I will summarze on this blog the various workshops, clinics and sessions I attended on your behalf.
Please note that the next meetings of Oak Bay Council, in Council Chambers, are:
- October 9, Council, 7:30 PM
- October 15, Committee of the Whole, 7:00 PM
- October 22, Council, 7:30 PM
