Popular Councilor Stepping into Oak Bay Municipal Race

OAK BAY – Popular two-term Councilor, Cairine Green, announced today that she will seek a seat on Oak Bay Council in the November 2011 municipal election.

Green, who has been a successful North Saanich Councilor since 2005, moved back to Oak Bay last year, where she lived during the 1980s with her husband Fred and son Matthew.

“I will bring to Oak Bay Council the same leadership qualities that I have demonstrated during my 6 years on North Saanich Council,” said Green.  “Listening, being open and responsive to residents and their concerns, and a proactive approach to community priorities are hallmarks of my record of service to the public. Giving back to my community is at the heart of my Council and volunteer work.”

If elected, her priorities would include: working together with Mayor and Council to significantly  improve communication with residents and the community; addressing neighbourhood concerns including development, traffic and housing; and, involving all residents in a meaningful and transparent process to review the Official Community Plan (OCP) and other priorities important to the community.  “My sense is that Oak Bay residents want more open decision-making.”

“Cairine has always shown a keen interest in municipal matters, and has had the experience of two terms on North Saanich Council,” said Trudi Brown, long time Oak Bay resident and lawyer who now has an Oak Bay practice.  “Cairine is a committed and caring person with the experience we need on Oak Bay Council now and I heartily endorse her for a Councilor position.”

“I have learned through experience that open, consistent communication with residents leads to better local decision-making,” Green continued.  “For the past four years, I have maintained a weekly blog and use other social media to help keep the community informed about Council activities and decisions and if elected in Oak Bay, I will do the same for residents here.  Consistent communication is key — residents will always know where I stand and why.”
